  • Acknowledgements

  • Your submission of an application for the URMC-Gordon Nursing Scholarship is your acknowledgement of the following:

    (1) Geographic Preference:

    Scholarship awards shall be granted on a priority basis to eligible students who are residents of Upson County, Georgia. If no qualified applicant from Upson County is available for award consideration, priority shall next be given to eligible students who are residents of Lamar County or Pike County, Georgia. If no qualified applicants from Upson, Lamar, or Pike Counties are available, URMC will work with Gordon State College to identify students residing in other counties within the State of Georgia.

    (2) Employement Commitment:

    In consideration of the scholarship assistance provided by the Hospital, the Student agrees that upon successful completion of the Nursing Program and obtaining an unrestricted Georgia Registered Nurse license, the Student will accept and maintain employment with the Hospital in a full-time Registered Nurse position for a continuous period of twenty-four (24) months or six months for each semester funded from the scholarship fund.

    For purposes of this Agreement, "full-time" shall mean a position classified by the Hospital as full-time under its then-current employment policies.

    The Student must begin employment with the Hospital within a six-month period following graduation, successful licensure, and acceptance of an available Registered Nurse position, unless otherwise approved in writing by the Hospital.

    Any approved leave of absence exceeding ten (10) consecutive calendar days shall toll the service commitment for the duration of the leave, and the completion date of the service obligation shall be extended by the same period.

    (3) Licensure Requirement: The Student must successfully obtain initial licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Georgia within six (6) months following graduation from the Nursing Program.

    Failure to obtain licensure within such period, unless waived in writing by the Hospital due to extenuating circumstances, shall constitute a repayment event under this Agreement.

    (4) Repayment Obligation:

    The Student shall repay the Hospital a prorated portion of all scholarship funds paid on the Student's behalf if any of the following occur before completion of the twenty-four (24) month employment commitment:

    • The Student voluntarily resigns employment with the Hospital,
    • The Student voluntarily transfers to a non-approved position,
    • The Student is terminated for cause, including but not limited to:
      • policy violations;
      • misconduct;
      • unprofessional behavior;
      • performance  deficiencies;
      • failure to maintain required licensure or certifications; or
      • the Student fails to successfully complete the Nursing Program.

    Repayment shall not be required if employment ends solely as a result of:

    • a reduction in force;
    • elimination of position;
    • closure of a department or service line;
    • permanent disability that prevents the Student from performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation;
    • death; or
    • such other circumstances as approved by the Hospital in its sole discretion.

    If repayment is required after employment has commenced, the repayment amount shall be calculated as follows:

    Repayment Amount = Total Scholarship Funds Paid × (Number of Months Remaining in the 24-Month Commitment ÷ 24)

    For example:

    Months of Service Completed Amount Owed
    0 Months 100%
    6 Months 75%
    12 Months 50%
    18 Months 25%
    24 Months 0%

     Any repayment obligation shall become due within thirty (30) days following separation of employment or another repayment event.

    At the Hospital's sole discretion, alternative repayment arrangements may be approved in writing.

    The Student shall be responsible for all reasonable costs incurred by the Hospital in enforcing this Agreement, including reasonable attorneys' fees, court costs, and collection expenses to the extent permitted by applicable law.

    Any amount remaining unpaid more than thirty (30) days following the repayment due date shall accrue interest at the lesser of:

    eight percent (8%) per annum; or
    the maximum rate permitted by applicable law.

    Failure to satisfy any repayment obligation under this Agreement may result in the Student being designated as ineligible for rehire by Upson Regional Medical Center and its affiliated entities.

    (5) Acknowledgement: The Student understands that their signature on the Gordon Nursing URMC Scholarship Agreement is required before receipt of any funds.
